It's been a cold and rainy spring in Brooklyn this year, but luckily I've felt motivated to create. These patterns started off as a single leaf shape that was flipped and repeated.

Hex Signs

I've been researching hex signs. These colonial dutch ornaments adorn barns and homes throughout the northeast United States. Especially around amish settled Pennsylvania.

Some of my favorite images:

Bright color and patterns. Right up my alley!

I took inspiration from these, but wanted to create a new style that mixed the traditional hex signs with a framework of color and pattern.

Marine Park, Brooklyn

I took a bike ride to Marine Park in Brooklyn. Although it was December 28th, the temperature was 65 degrees. I've heard much fanfare of this, Brooklyn's largest park, but was somewhat disappointed. The grasses were beautiful, but the beaches were filthy and some kids were riding ATV's around the park. Got some nice shots though. Wouldn't believe these were taken in NYC!

I finally developed a roll of film that had been in my 35mm camera for hmmm, 2 years? I was very excited to see pictures from the roadtrip Geoffrey and I took in 2010! Unfortunately, much of the film was damaged. Not sure if it was processed poorly or if it was the leaving it in my camera for two years thing.

A visit to an abandoned mental hospital in Staten Island, NY.

 I stumbled upon Seaview Hospital while doing some research on Google Maps. I was intrigued by the amount of abandoned buildings and the size of the largest building (about 8 floors). Here are some shots that I took there.

I was very intrigued by the colors here. This is one of the first abandoned buildings I've seen that wasn't entirely covered with graffiti. Many of the rooms felt almost Mediterranean, like this one:

New abstract painting is finished!

I decided to take away the intense color play and zoom in to capture a more abstract moment. I think it comes off as a bit more subtle, but still makes a statement.

I'm starting a new oil. It's a design which I posted a while back. This piece is a bit smaller than most of my work. I hope to finish quickly and that it sells quickly as well.

One from Athens:

On the drive between Athens, Ga and our campsite there was an oddly vacant swanky looking subdivision. Big walls, gates, curves, and lamp posts, but no houses; no people. I almost missed the shoot, but the light was so beautiful at sunset, that I rushed over to capture it.
